No cabin heat 700 1991

1991 or 92 745

I am trying to help a friend who purchased this wagon from me several years ago. He is reporting that there is no heat in the interior of the car. The heater valve is new and responding to adjustment at the dash. He flushed the heater core and it was not restricted. At this point I am wondering if the vacuum operated doors in the system might be at fault?

Where is the vacuum routed through the firewall to the dash?

Any suggestions on additional things to look for?

Thanks for any help.

    Is the defroster on?

In my '90 744 TI, the control in the dash cracked, leaking vacuum, causing the system to default to defrost.

I was actually able to repair the crack with plastic glue and restore proper operation.

Always check the FAQ, even on later cars, some of the systems work the same on all Volvos.

Thanks James, I will forward this information to him. I believe he still has the car but hasn’t been driving it in the extremely cold days.

If the vacuum operated heater valve is responding to commands from the control panel then you must have vacuum at the control panel. You may have an issue with leaky blend door servos not pulling the door(s) open or shut. I believe the 700/900 FAQ section has a write-up on checking and replacing a servo in the heat/AC section.

Thanks Chris, I believe you are correct. It would appear that the actuator has died. He has been looking for a replacement vehicle for over a year. This component failure has pushed him into a V70.
