Rewiring Help 140-160 72

I'm hoping to begin rewiring my entire car (yeah, I know I'm crazy, but it's REALLY bad) just before xmas in the aim of completeing it by feb.

What I'ld like to know is what capacity wires would be best to use (how far above spec) and some rough estimates on the amount of wire (in each colour) I'm going to need.

I'ld love to hear from anyone who's ever undertaken such a task and I'ld love to hear about what tricks you learnt along the way.

Thanks All!

Re: Rewiring Help 140-160 72

This company might be of some help. I used one of their wiring kits for re-doing my 544. Their wires are marked every 5 inches (i.e., horn, lights etc). It would be nice if they would sell you some of that wire without selling you a kit, but I don't know.

Re: Rewiring Help 140-160 72

Since the 140 and 240 bodies are so similar from the "A" pillar back, I would salvage the rear harness from a '90 or up 240 to do the this part of the car. The main connector between the front and rear chassis harness is located on the floorpan between the driver's seat and the rocker panel. It will fit nicely into your 140 and, since you won't be using the fuel pump circuits, will give you some extra wiring for additional accessories.

Re: Rewiring Help 140-160 72

Wire sizes are pretty good on these.

You could go one size bigger. Be sure you get PLENTY because

it is a LOT easier to cut some off than to put some more on!

Re: Rewiring Help 140-160 72

I can't stand pieces of wire being connected instead of just one long length, so I definately won't be doing that!

Re: Rewiring Help 140-160 72

If you could get another harness from a junked car, you would have a good pattern to follow for creating a new one, without ripping your's out first.

Re: Rewiring Help 140-160 72

Actually me and a shop near my house...we did this on my 144s, and it didn't actually take long... took a weekend. These cars are so simple...feels like lego.

Uhh... I say just get any good wire a little better than spec and just get many colours...hehe. (That's what I did...) Car still runs and nomore electrical problems... (Except it was done by head, not by a diagram...so it's a PITA to trace connections.)
