removing the gas tank.... 200 1985

I have a 1985 Volvo 240 DL (245 DL) wagon. I would like to know how I would go about removing the fuel tank? I have a Chilton shop manual, but it is pratically useless.

Thanks

Re: removing the gas tank.... 200 1985

/// Be sure you need to remove it. There is access to the pump and fuel gauge assembly under the rear deck on a SW or under the mat in the trunk of a sedan.

The hoses must be removed at the fuel pump under the driver side rear seat. There is a fitting over the axle to break the return line it does not have to be cut. There is a clamp on the input tube so it does not need to be removed with the tank. If you remove this clamp buy a bolt about 1/2 inch longer for reinstalling it. It will be easier to replace the clamp with the longer bolt. The rest is just removing sheet metal bolts and threaded bolts.

If you need to have the tank coated there is a plastic process for about $45 at most radiator shops. If they want to put in a drain, have it put in a corner so it can be hidden with undercoating. I got a recessed 3/8 inch hex pipe plug at a truck shop to plug the drain. Those are used in air systems on trucks.
