How to replace relay(central lock)? 700 90

Is it a case of unplug and replace?Steve Ringlee suggested it's either the central lock switch or relay. In this freezing weather,I can just about manage the relay replacement if it's only unplug and replace.Otherwise it 's dealer time(exorbitant but they've got heated garage, which I dont)

Approx.how much does a relay cost?

Tom

Tom -

What led you to decide to replace the central locking relay? My locks work intermittently and I have been wondering if it is the relay. My car is a 1986 740 GLE. I would appreciate your feedback.

Trial and error.

There seems to be 2 things commonly wrong with the lock.

At dealer,it may cost 50$ to make the diagnosis. If the relay is easy and cheap, that maybe worth a try.

As far as removing the door trim ,i loath to do it in this cold weather. Also I may break a plastic snap and end up with more rattle than desireable. So I most likely would leave that to the dealer.

Tom,

Yes, it is just an exercise of unplugging the old one and then plugging in the new one. Don't know about price, but a guess would be $25-$30. Have you thought about purchasing a used one, or soldering your old one? I was unsuccessful in resoldering mine but it is worth a try.
