He-man hood-hinge spring-installation trick? 700 1987

Today's my day to pick everyone's brain on all of the nagging little projects that I have to complete on my 1987 760-Turbo. I just had to replace my hood-hinges (don't ask!) and want to know what the trick is to getting those stiff springs installed. It looks like I should have had them already on the hinge when I was installing it, but I found it impossible to line up the bolt holes AND stretch the spring at the same time. Also, is there anyway that I can check/clean/lubricate the secondary "safety" hood-latch mechanism - the one that prevents the hood from flying open if one forgets to slam it down tightly after checking one's oil (again, don't ask!)?? Just curious...

I dunno about the safty catch (you're refering to the little catch thing in the center, directly above the grille, correct?), I'd try white grease or maybe wd-40.

As for the springs. They're fun, ask me how i know :)

I had to replace the hinges on my car after i wrecked it

Here's what I did:

Grabbed a friend

got a short chain(maybe 3-4 feet)

a decent sized flat head screw driver(any size craftsman will do ;) )

I hooked one end of the spring to the hinge

put the other end through one of the chain links, and then pulled on it while my friend got it over the tab.

pry the chain off, repeat as necessary.

After discovering that, it only took about 5 minutes from start to finish to install both springs.

Have fun and good luck!

All it is are the guts from the 740 are going in the 760. The 740 isn't driveable, i grabed it off a junkyard for 250.. looked like it'd been rolled, and all it was missing were the turbo wheels(damn!) the maf, and the top of the airbox.

and it's a manual too (double joy!)
