Leaky Sunroof 200 1976

Hello fellow brick lovers. I was wondering what is the proper tool or solvent to remove my worn front and rear seal on my 76' 242 manual sunroof? Also what type of adhesive should I use when putting on the new seals? Any tips or tricks welcome. The remove process in the manual looks simple enough so I was wondering why most shops I phoned said it would be a minumum of $240 just to remove the sunroof and approx. $100 for the seals just to get started. Thanks in advance.

Re: Leaky Sunroof 200 1976

Bruce has it, it isn't the seals. I ran a car for a year without the seal because they were in horrid shape and looked very bad. Clear the holes untill water flows freely, then, 3M Trim adhesive will stick your seal to the metal like cops to a Camaro. Removing the roof isn't the hard part, it's lining it up! don't remove it unless you realy have to.

(you are talking about a hand crank roof and not an aftermarket pop up right?)

Re: Leaky Sunroof 200 1976

Richard-

I can't help you with seal info, but you said leaky in your title A leaking sunroof may not be from bad seals, but from clogged drain holes. With the sunroof open you can see the drainage channel around the opening. In the front corners you will see two small holes, these drain down through the front pillars and onto the ground. They might be clogged, clean them out with a small wire. Be careful I dont know how these are made they could have tubes on the ends and you woundn't want to knock them off. GOOD LUCK
