o2 sensor output 700 1990

Hi there. What kingd of output does the O2 sensor give the computer? Voltage? How much (range)? Which two wires? One wire must be ground, one for signal, other for heater.

Thanks

Bill

Two of the wires large white and black supply 12v for the preheater. The other wire is the signal. I think it is green and located on the firewall. Pull back the rubber cover and attach the +terminal of your meter to it and the negative terminal to a good ground. The voltage should fluctuate from just above 0 to about .7 or .8 volts quickly--several times a second and average about .5v. If it does not fluctuate quickly it may be dead. Also try to richen the mixture by removing and plugging the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and you should get an almost 1v reading. Create a vacuum leak and you should get a .1v or so reading.

O2 sensor supplies voltage between 0-1 volt when operating correctly. Pull back the boot on the two wire connector and probe the two wires after the car has warmed up. There should be rather rapid fluctuation of voltage.

There are 3 wires. Black and white wires in 2 wire conector are +/- for the heater. The single green wire is the signal wire.

        Bob,

Thanks for bringing my error to my attention. I had a completely dead O2 sensor on an 89 DL and got not voltage flucuation when I tested it my (incorrect) way and once it was replaced I did get flucuation. However, when I went back to check what was up with that I found that the voltage varied back and forth and at times was over 1 volt. I thought the green wire was for the heater.

Thanks also for your kind approach in correcting me. I was once on a list for Brand X British cars and errors were dealt with harshly by old timers on the list which was detrimental to the value of the list in general.

        Randy
