what does gas in the oil pan mean? 200 78

hey brickboard,

i have a project volvo car and with little time to tinker with it other than to inspect the car i noticed the other day that when i checked the oil in it i smelled gas. is this a major problem?

Not necessarily a MAJOR problem.......but you'll need a good book and some diagnostic skills.

Depending on how fuel gets to your combustion chamber...K-jet I assume??? You have a too much it situation.........so either you injection system that is all messed up (get out the Volvo or Bosch book) or you simply have a bad control pressure regulator diaphragm that is allowing fuel to be sucked straight into the engine......
