too much gas! 200 83

Why does gasoline accumulate in the air duct that runs from the air filter to the throttle body when I shut this car off? Doesn't run great, but I'm bringing it back from the dead---sitting for 3 years. Got it running and trying to get it running RIGHT.

Any help greatly appreciated

Matt

A 1983 non-turbo with LH-jet injection? Check the small vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold. See if it's dripping with gas. If so, the diaphragm is perforated and bypassing raw gas into the intake manifold.

Don't let Don's disinformation fool you. Gasoline actually undergoes numerous chemical processes to make it as clean as possible. He also knows almost nothing about Volvos. Rico seems to give good advice though.

His idea about the bad fuel pressure regulator is a good one though. I'd check it out. That is basically one of two reasons far a gas smell unless there was severe backfiring through the intake.

The other reason could be: There is a vacuum line running from the TB to a charcoal canister type device under my car's ('83 245) bumper on the left side. If the canister decided to go full purge at shutoff, it'd possibly make said stench.
