cams 120-130 1965

I'm kinda new in the Amazon & Volvo world & I keep seeing people talking about Camshafts without getting any further in knowing what is what. Would any of you be kind enough to post a list of the camshaft designs by Volvo for the B18/B20 engines? Which camshaft is stock for which engine and what are the specs/designation of each camshaft type. That'd be highly appreciated! If you know any website that provides this info, just post the link (in english if posible...) Many thanx! Séb

In vclassics.com there is a tech article called "how not to rebuild your B18-B20 engine. It covers cam design and limitations for these engines.

Re: cams 120-130 1965

where is it possible to get the f,r, and s cams in the united states?

right now my B20 has ipd's street performance cam in it, which has 11.2mm lift, and 268 degrees of duration. what will be the effects of higher lift, longer duration, or both? thanks for any help you can give.

Re: cams 120-130 1965

Don't use an R-cam, certainly not for street use.

It doesn't make power below 3000 rpm and already is over it's peak at 6100.

It has too much overlap for street use causing a bad idle and high consumption. Try the F-cam, altough it has more duration it has little overlap. It has a reasonable idle and it is strong from 2300 rpm and makes it spin till about 6500rpm.

I recently built a street performance B20 with a K-cam, modified head with stock valves. It has a programmable injection/ignition and uses the stock injection B20E manifold. Altough not fully run in it produced 200Nm and 140 Din Hp (this translates to about 160bhp). 180Nm torque is already available at 2500Rpm and peaks at 3500rpm@200Nm. Peak power comes @5500rpm. Im sure that with an F-cam this will be about 180bhp@6250rpm.

Re: cams 120-130 1965

I hav youst R-cams on the street, both whith Weber DCOE, Weber 36/36 and dual SU.And I think its a good street cam. Ofcors it has a bad idle and it dont make any power below 3000rpm, but you can drive it undet 3000rpm, and if I am in a hurry I never rev the engin less then 3000rpm.You have rigth that the R-cam doesent rev as high as you wold like, but with Weber 45:s and a good cylinderhead whith bigger valves (atleast 37mm on the exaust) and a 2,5"exaust whith one freeflowing muffler, it revs whell over 6500rpm.And abowt the consumption, isent gas sheep in USA? If you take it slow you can drive a B20 whith R-cam on 1,5-2liters/10km (if you take it relly slow, whith in the speed limets, you can drive it on 1-1,5liters)

Re: cams 120-130 1965

The R-cam will rev till over 6500rpm but it already starts dropping power rapidly at 6100 rpm (and that is with 45 DCOE's and a ported/shaved big valved cylinderhead, header,...).

I don't live in the USA ,I live in Belgium where gas costs about 9.5SEK/litre so it isn't cheap at all.

I am now running a Kent fast road cam in my B20, it has 280° duration and slightly more overlap than the D-cam. It propels my Amazon from 0-100km/h in 8.5 secs.

In a few months I will install the KG6 cam and roller rockers together with a heavily modified titanium valved cylinderhead. This combo should give around 180 Din hp @ 7000rpm with better low range power than the R-cam and a much better top end.

For my race amazon I got an S-cam and the R-sport stage 5 cylinder head is now having new valves, springs and guides installed.

Re: cams 120-130 1965

You shud test the R-cam.In my experiens its a very good cam.Its pritty slow under abowt 3000rpm but you can drive it under 3000rpm. Whith the S-cam you can hardly drive the car under 3000rpm and it start to pull hard from about 4000rpm (I hav never used the S-kam my self, but I have frends that have). If you gonna use a R-kam you need atleast a E-head, or better yet, a good ported head whith bigger valves, and a good (2,5") exaust.Weber 45DCOE (or Dellorto) is ofcours the best carborators to use, but i hav had som luck whith R-cam and Weber 36/36DCD and dual SU
