Putting in a tach 200 1989

I've seen that putting in a tach can be done in less than 10 minutes, but how do you get the class casing out so you can then take out the radio? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Putting in a tach 200 1989

There are four screws holding in the instrument cluster. Two on each side (under the plastic that has the headlight knob on the left and under the two 2" x 2" plastic squares on the right). You'll need a stubby phillips screwdriver to get the clock out as you won't be able to get the entire cluster out of the way without removing the steering wheel. Once you've popped the covers off hiding the screws, you'll see why it only takes a few minutes to put in the tach. I think the complete instructions are in the 7xx/9xx FAQ.

Re: Putting in a tach 200 1989

You can actually remove the entire cluster in the '89 240's if you remove the center cover of the steering wheel (the same area where the horn is).

Just lower the windshield wiper lever all the way and you are set.

Supposedly my friend said that he had enough room in his fiancee's 1987 244 that he didn't have to do the above.
