Once you have determined that the plumbing isn't clogged perhaps you should change the rubber gasket on the oil filler cap. Overtime they degrade and do a poor job of sealing.

Clair, first the disclaimer = there are others here that really know these cars, I'm a "NOVICE" to Volvo. (30 ++ Yrs of DIY on other makes.)

On the first time through my 84 245 I missed the very small orifice on the intake manifold that the small hose connects to. ( To finally get it to work I had to literally ream it out with a piece of wire.)

When the above only helped, but did not solve the crankcase pressure, I revisited all the way to the block.

I found that two things were not right.

The flame trap had again nearly plugged and the passage on the block was 90+% blocked.

Best of luck.

Re: crankcase ventalation loop 200 89

Jon,

i have 91 240 with 135K, owned only 1 year, my first volvo. i luv it and have done lots preventative maintenance in last year. recently changed flame trap (between 3rd and fourth injector on this engine). but it is near impossible to even SEE the "vent box" that the hose is connected to. have you ever taken yours off to clean/inspect it? even if the flame trap and orificed are clean, it won't help if the vent box is clogged.

it looks like i may have to remove the starter and egr valve just to get to the vent box.

Re: crankcase ventalation loop 200 89

Dennis, what I reffered to as "on the block" is the oil trap and NO I was lucky enough to be able to do an adequate?? clean up of the blocked area = where the flame traps base attaches without pulling the oil trap & return beastie.

I did use solvent and lots of it in association with an oil change, but really didn't want to suggest this as I am un-sure if this was / is an accepted procedure.

Any way it worked, so far.........

Were I to remove the oil trap I would remove the intake manifold first.
