Have an 1984 245DL with just under 340,000 miles.
Was wondering if anyone else might have an even higher mileage 240.
What's the highest known mileage for a 200 series?

Okay it was interesting to read this thread and move on, but then I was compelled to voice in. I bought one last night, all maint. records intact, orig. owner, all maintenance (Scheduled or not)performed (usually at a dealer). The body and interior are near mint for an '83. (dash cracks, side pockets missing, tailgate wiring harness, parking break probs.) But I may not be in my right mind, it has nearly 420,000 on it!! The orig speedo was changed at 230K and the new one read 190K. Runs tight!! Oh yeah, someone stole the 300K badge!!
It has had in the past five years: New trans and clutch
In the past two years: Brakes, tires, struts, fuel pump, o'drive solenoid, Hoses and belts.
In the past six months: Water pump, timing belt.
Oh yeah it has had the A/C retro fitted, Comp, Cond. and miscelanious other, july 01.
Paid $600. Is that a fair price??

It's nowhere near the record, but my 1980 245 is hanging around at 423k. I replaced the engine at 310k. It's got a lower mileage rear axle and it's on its second used 4sp+od. I've had it since 99k, always kept it up, never ran it into hard objects.
Which leads me to a question for everyone out there in Brick Land:
Last year I found a really clean, tight 1992 245 with 163K. Now it's about 95% combat-ready and it's my daily driver. There are three choices for the 1980:
1. I can let it keep hanging around for an extra $400 per year insurance. But not driving a car is hard on it--and the other one is really a nicer ride. When AC season rolls around (Texas) the old one just can't keep up (although in principle the AC does actually work.)
2. I can sell it. What's the most I get--$800? Would anyone in his/her right mind buy a car with 423 thousand miles on it?
3. I can junk it, yank the transmission to swap out the AW70 in my 1992, the door pockets, copper radiator, etc. But how much off a 22-year-old car is really valuable?
And considering the mileage (I realize that's a big qualification) it's a clean car.
Thanks for any wisdom you can offer.

If the body is clean --- It would be a great donor car for a mustang v-8 engine. You would have (or somebody else) one nice sleeper ..
Also, if everything else is good - a rust free car is hard to come buy in NJ

"What's the highest known mileage for a 200 series?"
The UK Volvo club high mileage site lists a 200 series at #2 with 1,628,780 miles. It's a 1979 245 Diesel from Finland. The next highest 200 series is a 1979 242GT at #5 overall with 795,215 miles. The #1 car is of course a P1800S which will roll over 2,000,000 next month.
http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/high_mileage.htm
I'm #361 on the list, but my current mileage would put me at #341 (154,900 miles).

If I updated mine I would be 173 on the list. 1980 DL 172,480 approximately. Fairly low mileage compared to many others' on the Board.

300miles from 360,000. Original Block, just the heads been redone with an aftermarket cam thrown in for good measure.

Hello,
My '80 245 just turned 360k miles. Original engine, never rebuilt, tranny was replaced because of a bad OD. Barely any rust. Soon I will be replacing the engine with a B23FT, as I want more power!
A few years ago I saw an early-80s 244 with over 400k, it had the hi-mile badge, too.

I bought my 88 240DL the day after Thanksgiving, 1987. I just turhed over 393,000. Original engine, no work done, except for maintenance. I still get 27 mpg and the car drives great. I hope to get 500,000 out of this engine and then I'll replace it with a turbo....

It's not my car, but Paul Schuh said his 84 245T had something like 30,000 miles on it. That's not a typo!

the highest volvo is just under 2 million. i'm nowhere close to what other volvos are at, i have 152,459 but i'm working on it. I think there are some 240s that are up in the 500k if not higher.

My 1984 245 GLT is at 285,000 right now. Still going strong. It's still on the original turbo, and the engine block hasn't had any work done on it south of the valves. The past owner fed the thing nothing but synthetic oil since the 3rd change, and really knew how to take care of his stuff.
I know the car it's self is good for another 300,000 miles, but that engine and turbo might need a rebuild in about 30k.

weekend...the shop is cleaning out the flame trap (which is what
my wife calls the car..by the way)...
