Parts compatibility - 1988 to 1990 740 turbo 700

Parts compatibility - 1988 to 1990 740 turbo

At long last we have settled our pending insurance claim on a 1998 740 turbo that was totaled in a collision. We have purchased a 1990 740 turbo and have kept the damaged 1988 to salvage parts. The 1998 has a carefully rebuilt engine and head; distributor seal; new calipers, rotors brake pads; electric coolant fan; and tires. There is about 11,000 miles or six months use on the motor and parts. The tires were less than two weeks old.

We are interested in opinions regarding the 1998 parts that will work on the 1990.

Engine - It appears the block and head are identical. I presume if I switch, I will need to install the following 1990 parts on the block: intake manifold and throttle body; exhaust manifold, turbo and turbo oil lines; sensors.

Rims and tires - appears to be identical except for the visual style of the alloy rims.

Rotors

Calipers and brake pads.

Oxygen sensor

Other suggested parts to strip off?

Keep the engine in your '90 unless it's worn out. It's a stronger engine than the '88 (assuming the '88 engine was rebuilt to '88 specs). The two cars also use different fuel systems, so swaping the engines would mean dealing with the sensors and wiring that differ between them.

The wheels should fit fine.

I don't know if the brakes are the same.

From the '88, keep the transmission with the shifter, overdrive relay/wiring, keep the engine with the manifolds/turbo/wiring/sensors/AMM/ECU/alternator, power steering pump/hoses/tank, the intercooler, intercooler hoses, radiator, rad hoses, etc. If there's any good parts of the exhaust, keep it. If the front wasn't smashed, take off the headlights, grille, and turn signals and sell them. Keep the interior, door panels, etc. Basically, remove and store as much as you can unless you plan to keep the entire '88 car.
