lowering a 245 200 1981

what is the best way to lower a 81 245? my frined and I are going to lower my 245, and I wont to know what is the best to lower the car to? how many inch and how many coils to cut off. I have IPD sway bars I found in a junk Yard for $30 and I found out there the GT sway bars they are the bigger ones designed for a 2 door not a wagon. I talked to a few frinends and if I lower my car I will not have over anti-sway in the rear.

I also trailer stuff with it. I pull trailers with it so I have to still have some hight so I can pull trailers.

I find that when I throw 300lb of equipment in the back and 100lb in the front plus myself the car drops at least 2 inches.

Hi matt

When lowering a car always use proper lowered springs. On 245s volvo used harder and slight taller springs in the rear of 245s only so when ordering new spring get 245 spring. In your case use new lowered spring in the rear not second hand springs from a wrecking yard as second hand springs will be soft and will sag more. See if you can find some inspring air bag for towing (eg poly air bags we have them in Australia) to retain the lowered ride hight when towing

Best of luck

George

You've asked this before, and I've answered it before. There were other good answers too. Do a search.

personally myself i wouldn't cut the springs that is a cheap way yes but think of what you are doing you won't have as much spring. i would go with lowering springs ipd sells them www.ipdusa.com and that would be your safest bet it lowers your car about an inch and a half to inch and three quarters check it out.
