Water pump pulley is wearing groove into timing cover

There is no wobble on the water pump pulley but it is (has) wearing a grove strainght through the timing belt cover. When I replace the water pump recently I noticed that there was a grove straight through the timing cover and assumed that it was do to excessive pulley wobble/worn water pump bearings. However, it has nothing to do with the pulley or water pump and is something in the way the timing cover is mounted. Has anyone run across this? Do I just need to replace the timing cover and how much do they run used?
Thanks

My guess is that you messed something up when you converted to the electric primary fan. You did replace the fan studs with bolts that are not too long? If you worked on belts behind the cover at the same time or changed the water pump or something, you probably did not put the cover back on right. If the cover is properly installed and the pulley is properly installed, there is no rubbing.

If your pulley is off, your pump is probably off, and that may cause your cooling problem.

A used cover should be cheap. You just have to find one. I would pay $10 for one, but you might have to pay $15. More and I would find another place.

My 88 740 has done the same thing. I have not replaced the timing cover though.
