Trunk spoiler question 200

Supposedly the 850 one is good. There is a guy on Ebay that sells them.
My kid pulled one off a bimmer 318 (older square type) that fits pretty well on his 244Ti. It is raised a couple of inches and mounts by two legs. He just glued it on with goop avoiding the drilled trunk.

Trunk spoiler question 200

I agree volvoguy i say do what you want with "your" brick if you like what it looks like then hell who cares about other people. If you are going for making your brick original then all the power to ya.

Standard rear spoilers start to provide meaningful down force in the 120+ MPH area. The majority of 240's can not achieve the speeds necessary to take advantage of the rear spoiler oparating range. Unless you plan to use one of those 4 foot "box kite" wings they use on the dirt track racers, or drive at felonious speeds, you won't even know it is there, except for the gas milage hit.
The vast majority of spoilers you see on cars are, in fact, useless.
Turbo 911's, Mustang Cobra SVT, Corvette ZR1, AMG Hammer, M5, NASCAR, F1, CART: are cars that can go 160 MPH with ease, That is what spoilers were made for.
All a spoiler will do for most, (99.99999....%), cars is provide a little drag.
Buy a set of sway bars instead, that will be money spent you will notice.

Um, Not Really 200

"Turbo 911's, Mustang Cobra SVT, Corvette ZR1, AMG Hammer, M5, NASCAR, F1, CART: are cars that can go 160 MPH with ease"

AMG Hammer? Never heard of it. All other Mercedes AMG models as well as the M5 are electronically limited to 155 mph or less. Close but no cigar. That SVT p.o.s. that you talk of can't do 160 either. I'm not posotive but I think it is drag limited to around 150 mph. The ZR1 and 911 turbo on the other hand ...

That's assuming he wants it for added downforce, which is unlikely. A rear spoiler could provide added stability at much less than 120mph.

An 850 spoiler will fit a 244.

Do you mean lateral stability? If so, explain it to me in aerodynamic terms. Because I must have totally mis-understood the last 30 years of stock car racing. If the spoiler is not providing down force, what kind of force can it provide that would effect stability? Do you mean like a vertical stabilizer?
There are far faster and more capable cars than 240s getting along just fine without trunk mounted spoilers. The air going over the top of a 240 is turbulent to put mildly. Any type of aero-aid needs smooth air to work. The only car less aerodynamic that a 240 would be a Checker Marathon, I know, I owned one. If a spoiler would have helped the 240 I'm sure there were smart enough people working at Volvo who thought about it, and decided against it.

Spoiler works even while parked 200

Hobbit you don't get it. The spoiler has nothing to with down force, stability, lateral X factors, speed or handling but rather it's about cool and image. That means it's even working while the car is parked! Amazing eh?
Personally I think a 240's cool comes by keeping it clean, well maintained and leaving it just as is. I think the poster would be better with a riced up Toyota and not spoil the image of our 240's.

man, i'm trying to have an original brick. is that such a crime.. and to answer the remark about the sway bars, it already has a full ipd suspension. i dunno i thought a spoiler might enhance the look of it.

well check out http://www.ricecop.com for a list of things not to do to enhance the 'look' of it...
i would suggest a deeper front airdam & skirting around the car if you want functional good looking enhancements, something about adding a spoiler to a sedan constructed using right angles that just looks all wrong ...

i like my ground clearance for those 'rough' roads, so if i ever make any body mods, it'll be one of those rear air deflectors on the back window to try to keep visability in check... like you see on all those SUVs that never make it offpavement ... any ideas where to find one that'll fit a 240 wagon ?
