Interesting 'old' transmission 444-544

In digging through my spares, I have come across an old 4-spd transmission from a 544; it appears to be a B18 unit, but what is different from any of the others I have seen (and they are numerous, having been a Volvo fanatic for years) is that the housing has "KOPING" cast into it, obviously a company name. Any of the units I have seen before had VOLVO and the part number cast in. Can anybody shed some light on this transmission? Is it an early B18 unit? As it stands, it is surplus to me and will be sold. Maybe it will help somebody trying to re-create an original spec vehicle. I am assuming it is from a 544, but maybe it is from a 120/130. Any information is appreciated.

The old 3 speed in my 57 444 said Koping on the cast, as did the 4 speed in my 61 544. The three speed was sent back to Sweden along with the original b14 as a fellow there wanted that wording on that transmission mated to that motor for a specific restoration.

I think you'll find it something like an H5 off a PV 444, it'll only fit the B4B, B14 and B16 engines.

Interesting enough, it is an M40 style. I know it is from a 544, maybe not originally, because it has the remnants of the crossmember and the vertically oriented trans mount. I cannot recall if this was the same on a B16.

Koping was a separate company which made Volvo trannies but
Volvo eventually bought them out. Not sure what year this happened.
If it is an M40 it should be very much like (if not identical to)
the Volvo M40.

Paul Grimshaw says all manual transmissions in Volvos were made by Koping, a division of AB Volvo.
