rear brakes 700 1985

Hello everybody;
can't insert new rear brake pads - one of pistons stuck so new pad don't slide in. How to make piston travelling? By force or some tricky way?
Thanks
Peter

Peter, i remember doing my rear pads on my now dead 86 turbo, i had the same problem with my cal's on the rear, i took a large lock wrench to it with wood on the back side and squeezed like never before it took alittle while but it went in, you also might want to try to loosen the releaver nut to it's max or just take it out too might have something stuck behind it.

The lazy mickymouse mechanics way is:
Put an old slim pad in.
Start your engine.
Press as you never pressed before
the brakepedal.
Either the piston comes loose or
you need a new caliper or
the seals in the masterbrakecylinder fail
and you need a new masterbrakecylinder too.

I can NOT recommend that procedure,
but some 'mecanics' do it like that.

won't that eject the piston completely from the caliper's piston housing??

Maybe I did not write it clear.

The unit stays assembled on the disc.
You take out the half worn pad and
insert a very worn pad.
That is as if you drove until the pads are totally worn.
The maximum way the piston can go is until the pad against the disc.
Usually about 1/16 inch or less. enough to loosen the piston.

One way to avoid all that trouble is:
Use your brakes during driving sometimes. I mean Really USE them.
Some people drive so carefull all the time,
low speeds, let it roll, apply brakes carefull.
Then they wonder, their pistons stuck.

But be carefull: Secure the car on stands,
before you jump in the drivers seat.

And its possible you create more damage on other parts,
especially leaks !!!
So - no warranty! - your own risk.

ohh those shims. i thought you were talking about the teflon and aluminum shims that are between the brake pad and caliper.

Did you try loosening the caliper from the rear axle, and using a C clamp to push the piston back in? If it does not go back in easily, that is an indication that you need to buy a rebuilt caliper.

Exactly, I think that's the case. The last C-clamp used is very open "C" now - siply it bent backwards, but piston moved back - done it twice and that's it.
Thanks for help
