I have replaced my 240 blower motor! (sarcastic applause and sympathetic nodding)

I didn't find out about the Don Foster method until I'd already pulled everything apart as per Bentley. I didn't fully do the Benstein procedure either; I managed to get the fan shrouds off by just loosening the center console but not removing it. I also didn't remove the door/dash ducting, floor ducts, gauge pod, vacuum balls, radio or seats. The glove box did have to come out.

I had to R&R the left inner fan shroud TWICE because I didn't grind off the entire mounting bosses the 1st time (only the smaller bump) - doh!

I actually don't recommend taking the shortcuts I did. I'd do it again because that is my style, but it makes for some very trying moments, especially during reassembly. Thank goodness Volvo plastic is high quality and withstands some abuse.

I had 2 mysterious screws left over when I was done: the same type used to secure the center console frame to the dash frame. Oh well - everything seems solid.

Of course, now the left rear taillight is out. Brake and blinker work, just not the bottom lamp and it's not the bulb. Wonder if I f---ed up some wiring. Time to get out the multimeter.

No, I will not come over and help you do yours! But I will hold your beer and tell dirty jokes, (you'll probably be using some un-genteel language yourself).

how long did it take? I spent a week, on and off doing my heater core replacement... the old fashion way. took the ENTIRE dash off, and had nothin left in the front but a ton-o wires and a support that held up the steering column. it was...um... fun

About 3 days, part time 200

so maybe 16 hrs. total. Now, to do the heater core I imagine there are few possible shortcuts. You can't twist, bend and shove around a heater core like you can molded plastic pieces. That is a job I don't mind experiencing for a very long time!

Congratulations Philip! You are hereby awarded the O.B.M. (Order of the Blower Motor) for valiant service in the cause of keeping them rolling.

The awards ceremony will be on October 19, at Leewards Air Ranch, Ocala. I'LL buy YOU a beer!

Could you run the Foster method by me one more time? Or point me toward it?

Thanks

Foster Method 200

I found it by searching RWD with the keywords "blower" and "Foster". If you can't locate it, send me an email and I'll send you the text. I didn't want to use the bandwith to reprint it here when it's already on the BB.

Foster Method 200

I will do a search (guess I should have thought of that). Thanks, Phillip.

Bless you my son. Of course you realise that the heater core will now self-destruct and need replacement. All the more fun if the car has aircon too.
Once you have completed that task, you may go on to re-assemble the sprague clutch in a M46 overdrive unit, then replace the parking brake pads on a Jaguar XJ6. Then you can rightfully call yourself Grand High Mechanical Chap of Unending Patience.

The uni directional clutch is a lot easier if you use a cable tie, rather than the elastic band method. Stand all the rollers inside a slightly loose tie and gently pull it tight. It'll even hold its pre load like that without a little wedge flying out and having to start over.

Regards

Pete

Well done Phillip! Just think, in a year or two you might consider doing another heater fan for a close relative or friend!
(I had a 282 GLT for a while myself - loads of fun those V-8 cars)
