Hard Starting and Possible Issues If Not Corrected 200

92 240 w/114k and if it sits for more than a day, when trying to start, will have to crank for several seconds. Once it does start, runs fine. However, under same conditions if I turn key on, but not start, I can hear fuel pump run for 2-3 seconds and stop. If I then proceed to now start, fires right up. Question, is it the fuel pressure check valve or fuel regulator and if not fixed/replaced, will this cause bigger problems down the road to other items such as premature wear or failure all together???

most efi systems run the fuel pump for a few seconds when the key is turned on.the fuel pump relay is then turned off if no signal is received to indicate the engine is running.try turning the key on,waiting until the pump stops, then trying to start the engine.i may cycle the key to build pressure 2-4 times after working on the fuel system.if you have to there is a problem.look to the fuel pressure regulator, the pressure check valve(pump replacement),or an injector leaking down if there are no external fuel leaks.

I suppose you'll wear out your starter in half the time, and you run the risk of running your battery down in cold weather. I agree with Dewayne, and you, it does sound like a FP check valve. Make sure also that all ignition parts are in good shape.

Hmmmm... it's been a long time since I had to deal with this, but my GUESS would be the check vavle. It holds pressure in the fuel system after the engine has stopped. If the check valve is "leaky", pressure is lost so when you start the car again it takes a few seconds to build up the pressure again. I THINK the regulator controls the fuel pressure going into the fuel injection system. This is my understanding of the system, so don't sue me if I'm wrong! 8~) Maybe someone else can chime in here.
