Rear Brake Lights Work, sort of.... Only driving during the day until I get this fixed 700

My 87 765 Turbo (295K) has just started this, when I depress the brake pedal, the dashboard lights come on. If the headlights are on, the third brake light stays on all the time and when I hit the brakes, although the lights glow slightly brighter, it real doesn't do much. When the headlights are off, everything works fine. Any ideas, advise, suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I had the same problem on my 760 wagon , the ground wires going to the tailights
were loose , crimp the connectors a little bit and make sure they are snug .

Mike,

It sounds like a grounding problem to me. Check the ground going to the rear hatch. On my 86 245 wagon ... the gound wire broke at the hinge and every time I stepped on the brake the instrument lights came on ... the third brake light was apparently seeking ground through the dash lights. I ran a new ground wire from the body frame to the rear hatch and the light gremlin went away. I'd check the ground to the rear hatch. Good luck.
