Heater Hoses 200 1983

Hello All,

The PO of my '83 245DL had connected the Two Heater hoses together.

My Question is: Does the hose coming from the water pump go to the upper or Lower firewall position? or does it matter?

Thanks,

TL

flow through the core is flow through the core, shouldn't really matter which hole you use. BUT in my experience they don't exactly give you a whole lot of extra hose to make the job simple and fun, so before you install make sure each hose will reach its intended destination if you are reusing the old hose.

Thanks,

The old hoses have been cut. Autozone has heater hose by the foot. Will this
work alright?

Hopefully I'm not opening up a can of worms with connecting to this heater core.

I'm putting in a new radiator and figured I would do all the hoses, Plus heat would be nice. Even In FLA.

Thanks again,

TL

Regarding the by-the-foot hose - I used this when I replaced my hoses not too long ago. You'll need to put some thought / effort into getting them on to the firewall connector without a kink, but it can be done (the volvo hoses have a molded bend I assume).
There are also a few sharp edges on the rear of the head/valve cover in that area so I sliced the old hoses open along their length and used them as chafe protection on the new hoses (with zip ties to hold in place.)

I second the already mentioned disclaimer about a leaking heater core. If the connections are open now I think I would fill the core with plain water and wait several days before re-routing the coolant - definitely not an ideal test because you won't be able to pressurize it, but if a big leak shows up, you can reconsider the change, rather than undoing the change.

Realizing that heat would be nice, you may want to keep a very close eye on your interior after reconnecting the heater core hoses. It's possible he/she disconnected it because a faulty heater control valve kept pumping heat into the cabin. The other (more likely, IMHO) possibility is that the heater core is leaking and allowing coolant to enter the passenger compartment. I don't want to rain on your parade, but forwarned is forarmed.

Hello All,

I'm going to get Hoses that are made for this application. Find out if the heater core is bad before I put my new Radiator in. That way I can flush everything.

Thanks for the Help..

TL

I have been there and done that. Autozone had the correct hoses for my 85 but its a b230f so they may be different. In my application, the generic 5/8" heater hose would not make the bends I needed well. So yes, spend the few extra bucks and get the right hoses. I think it was about 15 bucks total for me.
