help- I've been had! 960 porosity repair? 900 1992

I just bought a 92 960. The car is beautiful and the price was great. Maybe a little too great. I am seeing if the previous owner will take the car back seeing as she failed to mention the cars little coolant consumption problem. I posted recently stating that I thought this to the source of the problem and have now identified it as the leak. In the mean time, is there any way to repair the block porosity in the 960? Mine is leaking underneath the exhaust manifold by cyclinders 4,5 and 6. I have read that people have done it sucessfully with jb weld. Are there any other ways to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

Introduce a small dia plastic hose through the rubber hose leading to the block from the bottom of coolant res. Go down into the block Syphon out about a gallon or five qts. Slow job but you don't have to disconnect anything. Mix a quart or two of new 50% coolant with two thirds of a tube of powdered aluminum "alumaseal" or "world's best" stopleak. This comes in a clear plastic tube about the size of a shotgun shell. Shake well. Pour mixture slowly into the block using a funnel and the little tube. THis will get all the goodie into the block. Refill then to match volume removed. You may have to squeeze hoses or bleed. Drive a bit and top up. Run the heater control at various positions

Do not use other than the powder. Hope it has not been stopleaked before.

what about the brown stuff? 900 1992

what about the brown organic stuff? I used it in my 744 and the leaks it had stopped. Obviously the block wasnt porous, the leak was up by the thermostat. Im trying to remember the name of it...Barr's Stop Leak or something like that although using the aluminum sounds like it would make more sense for a block leak. thanks for the tip.

powder superior and safer. don't use the slime. since this advice is free I'm not going to give you all the reasons, but there are several.

you have little to lose.

caveat emptor. 900 1992

Sorry about that, but generally once you buy from a private person, that's it. Unless you're Tony Soprano and have, ummm, other options.

Best bet is to peddle the car yourself.
