Experiences w/rebuilt AMM? 200 1983

I need a new AMM, have heard that Rebuilt ones are "junk". How long do they last? I hate to spring for a new one- what do you think? TIA,Mark

I have one in my daughters 82-240. Been in there over 2 years. Absolutely no problem, whatsoever!

I think its a matter of finding someone with a track record for good ones.

I got mine from "injection labs" of gardenville ,NV. They were highly recommend. At least they were couple of years ago.

Http://www.pagekeeper.com/nv/injectionlabs/. Or you could just call around to see who carries their stuff. I think I paid around 200 bucks.

Also did you check to see if all your connections were good. I understand that sometimes its not the meter, but the connectors.

I replaced mine with a remanufactured unit from Foreign Auto Parts. The supplier was A1 and the brand was Bosh. The cost was $199. It failed immediately. But since it was under a 1 year warrantee, they replaced it with no questions. The second one has been working fine.

Recently replaced mine with one purchased at Autozone, of all places. The price was good and the unit is working fine. I'll let you know in another 100,000 miles how it's holding up.

heck no....Here in upstate NY it listed @ $160 or so. I got mine for $80-some guy ordered it,left a deposit and then wrecked his car and never picked it up.When they found it(when I called for one) and called him(like a year later) he told them to keep it and his deposit-hence I was able to apply his deposit on my purchase.

As much as I like FCP Groton, I can't recommend buying a rebuilt AMM from them (or anyone else). Never had good luck with one. Long term, a junkyard one will be more reliable. And you can probably buy 2 or three for even the price of a rebuilt. If you can't afford a new one, start callign the junkyards and check out some of the dealers on here that will sell used parts.

I don't know what it is about these parts- I mean, Bosch invented them so they ought to be the best source... but no one seems to be able to acheive a correct rebuild of one. And the early one, the 83-84 unit does seem to be more fragile than the 007 and other later units. Still there are lots of these cars hitting the junkyards... make some phone calls.

My experience has been that the bosch units are ok.(and of course expensive!) I've had varying luck with off name rebuilds, except for stuff from FIC I havn't gotten a good component from them EVER.FIC units seem to be the one customers supply the most also!

I just replaced the one in my 93 245 with a rebuilt one by Python that I got from FCP Groton. Considering the cost of a new one, I could get several rebuilt ones. It seems to work well, but time will tell.
