What problems have you had with your 960/S-V90? S90-V90

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong place. I have moved it to the S-V 90 section of thre RWD forum.

I'm a happy second owner of a '96 960 Estate (Oxford) just put 1`50K kilometers on it, looks and drives as new
The car lives up to my expectations and I would'nt trade it for a brand new Toyota even if it came for free.....

        Still some problems:
        AC leakage
Outlet manifold gasket (or was it my heavy right foot)
Brakes, handbrake ( see message 2/3)
        Nivomat shocks (expensive...)

Hey, if we expect transportation for no costs but sweat, take a bike......

        Ed

Same with me. I like this car. The problems I have experienced so far I consider "normal" and not excessive. I too would not trade it for new Toyota/Honda/Mazda/etc. Maybe new Mercedes?

    pnp switch
    intake manifold gasket (warranty repair)
    brake pads twice
    timing belt once

Otherwise, it is a nice driving car. Haven't had anything out of the ordinary wrong with it (knock on wood)...

Symptoms for AT Bushing failure? S90-V90

What were the symptoms that prompted you to replace the bushing under the AT? I get a "clunk" when my rear wheels go over a big bump. My dealer said it was the shocks. I replaced the shocks and it is better. Now it just needs to be a bigger bump. Sometimes I think I feel excessive movement of the shift lever over big bumps. Also how much was the bushing?

      Thanks

sorry, it is wrong name. I mean rubber cushion or pad.

go under your car and try to move up and down AT. If this is it you will hear big bang all over in car body. This is main cushion, there is only one, it is very easy to replace it (30 min). I've pay for ths part here in Germany 70 euro.

Ah, nostalgia! There's nothing like it.

    AC compressor
    AC control unit
    Airflow control vacuum motors
Power seat (both control unit and cable linkage)
    Sunroof (three times)
    Engine oil leaks
    Water pump
    Front end
    Door panel upholstery
    And finally, BRAKES, BRAKES, BRAKES!!!!

I could go on about the total lack of concern on the part of my dealer and Volvo North America but it's too depressing. I traded this boat anchor in 2001 for a Toyota and have been a happy boy ever since. After 33 years of Volvos, no more!

Well, Toyotas... Never go wrong, quite true. Just they are never right either... just lack that thing that makes Volvos, how do you call it... ah, yes, a car! Not a machine...

96 960 wagon 190K+ original owner and routine maintenance
Extended warranty saved my butt when AC compressor died - seems to be a common problem. Other than that, this model has far exceed my expectations. Love the straight six engine, chassis dynamics (for a wagon), seats, audio...
A real sleeper in the luxury sport wagon class.
And with the ltd slip and a set of snows, I pull 4wd's out of ditches in winter.
