Wiring Harness cancer 200

'82 240DL with Kjet--Can I jumper the power to my coil around the wiring harness cancer at the connectors on the starter solenoid? It seems that the brown wire that goes to the "+" on the coil is supposed to come from the ballast resistor--where is the ballast located?--I can't seem to find it anywhere, but would like to jumper directly from it to the coil to get around the area that the wires have shed their insulation at the starter end of the harness, which disappears behind the fuel distributor & I can't get at it there. The white/red wire on the "-" seems to be intact and healthy--I think it goes to the ignition control unit behind the passenger side headlight. Anyone done this before?

Thanks,
John

"supposed to come from the ballast resistor--where is the ballast located"

Look for a rod about 3/8" thick by about 4" long with wires attached at ends on the strut bump passenger side beneath the hinge.

I tried the wire by wire replacement and it worked OK. But all the wires looked the same when I went to replace the engine on my 83. bought a used replacement harness from Dave's Volvo Wiring Harness shop online..VERY happy. You should do the same.

The wires on the other side of the grey connector on the firewall have the right colors. In my case, since I rerouted and used a poly covering per wire, I was able to reuse the wires (cut off the crumbled ends). The oil and alt wires are new since I followed a completely dif path (along firewall), but red and blk are easy to find.
