Frequency Valve Hose Connections 200 1980

Hi,

I want to replace the frequency valve on my 1980 242 with B21-F K-jet. The original frrequency valve has a somewhat hard plastic hose that is permanently attached. The new one I received from FCP Groton only has a bare barbed nipple for this same connection end. Is it acceptable to use high grade fuel hose and a clamp istead of the "welded on" plastic hose ?

Thanks.

Mike

Is this the same car we've been trying to get running right in your other thread? Where I suggested the FV might be involved?

I guess you could use hose & clamp. But let's see what others have to say first.

Frequency Valve Hose Connections 200 1980

Hi Bruce,

Yes, it is the same car, but I haven't gone to replace the freq. valve yet. Just planning in advance for that contingency. I had ordered the valve a few months ago when I was pulling the intake manifoled in order to replace the wiring harness and control pressure regulator. Figured, I'd replace the things that are hard to get to while I had the access. The exisiting freq. valve worked fine then, there was the question of the connections, and everyone seemed to say that they rarely fail, so I left it well enough alone.

Car is still having the problem, as I haven't had time to get in and check the FV function and Lambda circuits. By the way, forgot to mention that the car has 270,000 miles on it. Thanks again for your help, and any other insights/suggestions that may keep you awake at night.

Mike

Frequency Valve Hose Connections (and electrical connections???) 200 1980

Another clue! Did this problem start when you replaced the harness? Because it is possible to plug the CPR/WUR wire to the FV and visa versa (and yes, I've done it).

This puts a constant +12V on the FV, instead of the normal pulses from the ECU, holding it OPEN. The FV wires should be a GREEN and a BROWN. The CPR uses a BLUE and a BLACK. It will toast the FV in a few hours (as I recall from 1990, on an '80 240).

Frequency Valve Hose Connections (and electrical connections???) 200 1980

Hi,

Thanks again for the thoughts and ideas, but no, not the case. Harness was replaced 7-8 months ago (with correct, double and triple checked connections) and car has been running flawlessly until Sunday morning. Failure/problem started suddenly then, no prior symptoms or gradual degradation. I KNOW what caused the problem: I noted to my son how well the car had been running ! :)

The suddenness of the failure makes me think it's something relativey simple, like a sensor or connection. Also, no blown fuses to indicate anything.

Mike

Hi Mike-

sounds like we have the same car:-) Just a quick question, what made you replace the FV?

As far as the hose goes, I can't see why some FI hose and clamps wouldn't
work... there isn't really anything else you can do.

Be sure to get Fuel Injection hose, and not just standard fuel line; same for the clamps. FI hose clamps are smooth continuous rings on the inside, unlike
the perforated "close enough" screw-type clamps.
