A test of temperment.... 200

Some of you may remember a posting from me in late June about my beautiful old low mileage 1980 244 being assaulted by gravel thrown from a flail mower as I sat helpless at an intersection. The damage was repaired and the entire car painted. I did a lot of extra work removing all the trim, trim fasteners, bumpers, door handles, etc to ensure a quality paint job. The end product was well worth the effort and she was well received at the Volvo expo in Niagara Falls this past August.

Since the repaint I've been one of those guys that parks at the far corner of the parking lot, happily hiking to the store knowing my car will be ding-free when I return.

About an hour ago I was waiting to turn left onto a city street, leaving the parking lot of a drug store. A Casino bus turns left into the parking lot from the city street and cuts the corner too close. He just narrowly misses clipping my front bumper. I don't know what he was thinking, but he continues past us so close that I was afraid for the side mirror, and then cuts sharply to the left. The middle of the bus is gouged from my rear bumper and the guy keeps going! The side of the bus caves in and he pushes my car to the side until the sidewall of the tire is under the rim and leaking air.

My bumper trim is shot, the bumper is damaged, the quarter panel is caved in and scratched badly, and the middle trim is destroyed....ooOooh my baby!

To add insult to injury, the accident happened on private property so the cop couldn't charge the guy. And with Ontario's no fault insurance it will go on my insurance record.

ARRRRGH!

With insurance companies raising rates for any reason, I'd avoid going to them. I've got an '80. No collision or comprehensive because it may be book valued below $500.

By putting in a claim, you may see your driver rating drop for about 5 years and be paying the higher ins. for that period. It may be worth it to pay out of pocket.

Maybe handing the bus owner an estimate and offering to go through small claims will get results. Remember we are talking $Casino$ here.

You might be able to fix the stuff that got damaged yourself.

Have you gotten in touch with the owner of the bus? Maybe you could
collect from either the owner or the driver and your insurance would
not be involved.
