Wheel 'catchs' when turning 200 1993

My father-in-law's 1993 240 has been making a clunk on the right side. He has it jacked up. When turning the wheel he notices that it "catchs" at one of the the extremes. This sounds to me like a upper strut mount/bearing problem. Does anyone agree or have other ideas? The car has 160,000 miles and the upper mount has never been changed, but the inserts, ball joints, tie-rod ends, and control arm bushiungs have.

You might also check the universal joint in the steering column. I've heard that they can bind up. Page 640-3 in Bentley as a picture of it. Good luck.

I would think that if it was in the steering column, it would catch once each revolution of the steering wheel, not just at one end of travel of the rack.
