Engine misses, tachometer jumping 200 1982

Hi All,

Looks like I have the "classic" ignition, tach jumpiness problem on my 1982 B21F-MPG (Chrysler White Cap, K-jet). From reading other posts on the board, I went ahead and changed the hall effect sensor in the distributor, the cap, rotor and coil. Seems like things settled down for a bit, then today I barely made it to work as the engine stumbled along, tach twitching away.

So, what's next? Harness, connectors, and the ignition control unit over near the alterator? Any advice on a good source for the ICU?

I'd hate to break down and spend "real money" at a mechanic!!

Greg

What about your plugs and wires? If the resistors in the plugs or wires have broken down they wont supress the EMI produced by the spark plug wires. Halleffect sensors are rather easily effected by EMI. Check your wires with an ohm meter. Not sure what they are suppost to be at but I think its around 5-6k ohms.

Oh yeh - I forgot to mention that the wires and plugs are fairly new at about 2 years. I'll check the wire impedance and see if I have a bad wire.

Thanks...

My best source for engine computers has been (believe it or not) ebay. There were several ICU's posted for my car ('87 240) and I got one for $20. It's worth a look, anyway.
