It's March in Texas... 900

And the A/C on my '94 940 is dead. I disconnected what I believe is the pressure switch (at the accumulator/reciever/dryer, much like the ones for the injectors) and put a jumper on the connector to see if the compressor would turn, but no luck. Before I start tearing it down, are there any well known problems with this model? that might save me some time, headache and profanity. I might be good at it, but that doesn't make me fond of electrical troubleshooting.

Might just be an easy fix 900

Might just be an easy fix....other post is blank by accident.. 900

Had the same problem on a '94 944 that I used to have. System was fully charged, and A/C would not turn on AT ALL when I tried to jump the system switches. The A/C control module (on the dash, above the radio) is known to get solder joints that crack and fatigue over time, which will keep the compressor from tunring on. I took it out, resoldered the points on the circuit board, and wham!! A/C worked again just like new. Check out the brickboard for instructions on how to remove the A/C control module (you'll have to remove the radio, and do it carefully, should be an easy job). I'll bet you that the problem is in the solder joints in your control module. There's a black relay in the middle of the circuit board that gives power to the A/C compressor. Read up about this, I remember seeing pictures of the solder joints to check somewhere online. But just be sure to go over all the solder joints that look suspect. Best of luck!!

Try hot wiring the compressor, i.e., a jumper from the compressor clutch to the battery +. There is an inline connector near the clutch that you can disconnect first. If you hear a click with engine off, the clutch works. Then you can crank the engine and see if the compressor turns when you touch the jumper wire to the battery. Be careful of belts etc----

dick, also in TX

I believe there is an inline fuse for the clutch in the wire going to the clutch.

if the clutch IS gone, go ahead and get a scrapyard comrpessor. taking off the clutch is a job that i will never ever ever ever think of doing. to take off the little spring clips on the bearings you pretty much have to work upside-down and backwards with a pair of pliers.

just replacing the compressor seems a little more pleasent. and i picked up the compressor for 75bucks.

Just did an A/C clutch job and it was a piece of cake. Only one Circlip and it was a breeze with a mirror and a good pair of circlip pliers.
