how do you get the frost color out of your headlight cover 200 1988

I have a 88' volvo 240 DL and I took the headlight cover off and cleaned the moisture out, but the nasty frost yellowish color remains. Is there a cream or polish or anything I can use to get this off there or is it hopeless. Maybe I will break down and just buy a new one if I have too. Any info is greatly appreciated!
thanks, Jason

regular ole buffing compound in medium or fine grit will work just fine, damp sponge and rub it in then wipe, only takes a few minutes.

I used an aluminum polish on the inside and that worked pretty well. Most mag polishes are an aluminum polish. brought them back to about 85% on my 88/244
Good Luck Sean

I'll have to admit, two new ones really do perk up the looks of my 88 245. I put them on first thing after I bought it last year (the originals and the reflectors had done their duty), and I guess every time I walk across a parking lot towards my car I notice how much "newer" and detailed they make my 165,000 mile wagon look. About $140.00 (ebay after markets), but now in hindsight I consider it money well spent. I did buy some "pristine" used units to replace similarly bad lights on my 88 F150, and was very disappointed to receive two headlights that were as bad as mine (his photo was non-definitive, small, and I relied on his description). No refund, no reply, I now consider that a $100.00 education expense. Just a word of caution if you try to save by buying used.

Best way by far, buy e-codes.

I meant half joking that if you want to solve the problem, get much better lighting and a much cooler looking headlight, rather than buy new US type lights (if it ever comes to that) put the money into the sleeker Euro lights (H4) for your 240. IPD used to sell an aftermarket but the Volvo/Cibies can be had from a cooperative Euro-brickster.

I've had pretty good luck starting with oven cleaner...a couple of applications on each side then following up with 3m polishing compound...the stuff for paint similar to rubbing compound... then a good coat of wax afterwards to keep them looking good. This seems to help alot but in reality they are most likely never going to look "new" again.

P.S. just on the outside...I have never done any of this to the inside...too many little grooves.

I too am wondering about this color. I just bought an 86' wagon and it seems to have some "frosting" on the headlights. I haven't had time to look closely, but is it inside as well? If so I was going to try to use vinegar and hot water with salt.....sort of like cleaning out a coffee pot. I have heard great things about the 3M plastic polish.

something made by 3m or myguiers, it's called plastic cleaner and polish, it works well. But you really have to rub and buff
