Vacuam line mystery....please help 200

Sorry for posting this again...but i got all my info together so i thought i'd give it a shot.

Car: 1982 244 Dl Kjetronic system B21F engine

Problem: i found a loose vacuam hose i did some trace work on the car right now. The line begins at the intake manifold goes under the intake and then connects to a three way connecter...two of those connectors connect back to the engine it seems(is this some sort of pcv system?) the last connecting line goes to this long vacuam line which goes all the way under the belts and under the alternator and i found the end of it near my radiator. where i found the hose there is some sort of a device that looks like almost a fuel regulator or somethign connected to a board like setup(ECU)? Is this where it's supposed to go? The line has a suction to it as well....

i'm afriad if this is some sort of a breather hose for the PCV system i might blow some seals by plugging this thing in?

I would appreciate any help

thanks

On my LH 2 that vacuum line is the small, hard plastic kind, and right at the ignition control unit it plugs into a larger, rubber line that is like an elbow, which in turn plugs into the ICU. If your setup is similar and the line isn't quite long enough, it's possible you've just lost the rubber elbow. This is something you'll want to fix right away.

This actually makes even more sense....

At the elbow where do the two lines go to?

would the result of this thing having been unplugged be sudden loss of power on hills or the such?

it's been unplugged every since i bought the car :)

Whats the purpose of the unit?

Inside the ignition thing on my car there's pretty much a computer chip with a vacuam gauge sort of contraption attached on the bottom

I'm going to have to get a new line...this one is too short...and brittle

Thanks for all the help guys

That long hose is the vacuum advance signal to your ignition control unit.
It has to remain hooked up and never plugged or you will not get the proper ignition timing advance curve.
There should be no unhooked hoses or lines anywhere coming from the intake manifold. If there is, you've got a vacuum leak. Locate where the hose goes and replace it, or cut off the old end and plug it back on.
