Auto trans hangs in 1st when cold !!! 200 1989

I have a '89 240 that suffered a radiator leak into the transmission fluid....after two transfusions...the transmission works good except it does the same thing that you described on your car: once it gets warm the transmission shifts out of 1st gear perfectly...but the first shift after the car's been sitting takes a while. I think that it's varnish causing the transmission governor to stick. I don't know much about auto trannys..however, I think there's some sort of centrifugal device towards the rear part of the transmission that has accumulated sticky gooey varnish...once the fluid gets hot, then the varnish is not sticky...but as soon as the thing cools down, then it does it again. I put one half a can of B3 Chem-Tool (find at Walmart) into the tranny and ran.....the stuff evaporates off immediately...that seemed to help a bit....then did the other half of the can....it still sticks though....I'm keepin my fingers crossed that one good run this summer will melt away all the varnish and then when it gets cold again, the problem may disappear.
