Cheapest Volvo parts I've seen 200 1981

I have a bad pickup coil in my DL wagon, and the cheapest I had seen them was at Autozone for $19.95, but it's a special order item.

I need a clutch soon, and the cheapest I had seen a clutch kit was at FCP Groton for $120.

But then I tried Expressautoparts.com. I know shipping can negate savings from many discount mail-order sites, but they have free shipping on orders over $50.

So I got a pickup coil for $13.52, a clutch kit for $102.25 and a rear crankshaft seal for $6.73. No shipping, no sales tax.

Yes, I know they're not high-quality parts, but I'm looking to sell the car fairly soon and am more concerned about saving money than longevity. Heck, I only paid $200 for the car in the first place.

I'm a little torn between keeping it and selling it, since it rides so nice and the seats are so comfortable. It's also a lot like having a pickup since there's so much room in the back of that thing.

I just wish it was a little easier on gas. I can only manage 23 mpg, but I have a rather heavy foot. I even got 23 mpg pulling a couple of dirt bikes on a trailer over a 10,000 ft. pass and back a few weeks ago.

Well, you get what you pay for, apparently. Not exactly, I guess. I paid for these parts over three weeks ago, and received an e-mail stating that all items were in stock and would ship in 2 to 5 days.

Right. I went on a motorcycle trip the week of the 12th, and arrived back on the 15th, fully expecting my parts to be here. But alas, I am still empty-handed.

I sent them an e-mail last weekend, and they replied that one of the parts was on back-order and would ship in 2 to 4 days.

Right. It's been 6 days, and no e-mail with the tracking number. Now I'm angry. My car has been disabled for a month now.

Realistically you could have read any number of *recent* threads where people complained about the lack of service from eeuroparts.com.

But hey, you got the cheapest price, didn't you?

And that is what you get when you shop purely on price. Something's gotta give. If it's not the quality (which supposedly is a problem with eeuroparts sometimes), it's gotta be something. By giving or even just loaning them your money, you encourage their shoddy business practices.

OTOH you could have just as easily supported one of the brickboard sponsors (or other Volvo partshouses) that are known for top notch customer service.

I think that free shipping thing is such an awful gimmick.. especially because there are places out there that do not mark up the shipping.

Your parts are coming from WorldPac; I've bought the very same parts, and they're Elring, Sachs, B&B, Bosch, etc.(at least they tell you).
OEM quality.
I've only has one dissapointment from them: they sent the wrong A/T OD solenoid o-rings, but refunded my money when I mentioned it.

Well I don't understand. 23mpg isn't easy on gas? What can you get to replace your DL that will be any more useful and cost effective??? If it was me, I'd keep it!

It's not bad, but not enough better than my Camaro (20 mpg and fun to drive) to warrant another insurance payment. Besides, I bought a dirt bike and could use the $ from the Volvo to pay for that. We'll see. Maybe I'll end up keeping it.

If my wife would drive it to work, it would pay for itself. She drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 360 Magnum, averages about 14 mpg. Plus we could leave the Jeep in the garage and save the paint, interior and miles. But alas, she likes the plushness and high seating position of the Jeep, so no dice. Dang it's tough when they get spoiled.....

"I just wish it was a little easier on gas. I can only manage 23 mpg, but I have a rather heavy foot."

So don't drive with a heavy foot! Simple solutions for simple problems my good man!

Heh heh heh...

In all seriousness, If you have the original auto tranny in that sucker, that's pretty good for the old BW-55s. If you have a standard tranny though, that's not as good. I get about 30 mpg on the highway in my 1980 245DL with an M-46 (the 4 speed with OD). Then again, I don't ever go over 55 mph (unless I absolutely have to for some reason), and I don't drive with a lead foot... at all...

Also, replace your ignition components. That can really help.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I live in CO at 5,000 ft. elevation, and it takes a heavy foot to stay with traffic. I think it's also the weight of the car that doesn't help. I have an '85 Camaro Z-28 with Tuned Port Injection that can easily manage 20 mpg, and gets there much faster.

I have the 4-speed w/overdrive.

Hey, I CAN'T DRIVE 55!! (to coin a phrase) I suppose at 55 I could come close to 30 mpg on the highway, but everyone would be passing me 20 or 25 mph faster, and I would be a source of road rage if I impeded traffic that much, not to mention in danger of being rear-ended.

And what reason would YOU have for driving over 55? I only drive with a lead foot so the Volvo can get out of its own way......
