Engine removal questions 900 1993

I have a replacement B230FT from a wrecked '93 945 ready to go in to the 944T whose engine I blew up. I have a few questions about removing the current engine:

1. Can you get the old engine out and the new one in without opening up the A/C system? It's R134a, but it was also working quite well before the engine issues and I'd rather not mess with it if I don't have to.
2. What do I have to do to separate the tranny from the engine itself? I took a look through the FAQ but couldn't find anything that documents that process well.
3. Any advice for a first timer?

Thanks!
Eric

Let us know haow this works out. If you could write it up for the FAQ (maybe with a few photos) that would be great. Email me with results.

You do not have to open up the ac to remove the engine. Carefully suspend the hoses and pipes away from the engine--I have wired the compressor to parts of the mastercylinder mounting or any other convenient substantial surface.

Some folks prefer to remove the transmission with the engine, but you unhook the transmission in a similar fashion as when changing one out. The bellhousing bolts have to be removed, the engine to transmission brace on the underside has to be removed and 4 bolts holding the torque converter to the flexplate. Also undo the downshift cable from the intake manifold and look for other things which may bind.

You will probably have a few more suggestions as well. Good luck, it isn't bad.
