M46 Upshift arrow - OR - Please, no more duct tape 700 1990

Well, I've finally gotten tired of being told when to shift my 744 Turbo. Is there a simple way to KO this "reminder/suggestion" without removing the dash and then the bulb, or using opaque tape? I'm guessing its a signal from some artificial intelligence that compares throttle position (or maybe manifold pressure/vacuum?) and speed... Thanks.

you can remove the bulb without removing the dash itself, just remove the lower cover and reach up in and unplug it.

Seems a little bit complicated, dontcha think? Kinda like adjusting the valve tappets from under the engine just because you don't want to open the hood... :)

In answer to the OP, no, there isn't another way to individually kill teh shift arrow (the fuses cover multiple devices, and isolating and cutting wiring is utter overkill). You either have to remove the bulb or tape it over.

My recommendation would be t just pull teh cluster, remove teh bulb, and be done with it. Quite frankly I'm surprised your so reluctant to remove the cluster and just DO this job... its literally like a 2 minute operation. You remove the screw covers on either side of the bottom of the instrument cluster, unscrew the screws, slide teh cluster out, and remove the bulb.

Either you have no understanding of how your Volvo is assembled (have you done any work on it before?) or you are really, REALLY lazy. ;)

I'm not sure if I should be offended. No, I have never removed the dash on a 740, but the process in the 760 requires removing significant trim pieces - not difficult but a minor pain. Also, I thought it better to ask rather than do what I thought was right and overlook something simpler; for example, the "by-the-book" 10 hour replacement of the heater fan in 240s when the job can be done an a few hours by simply cutting the housing and patching the holes with plexi. (I've done it both ways.)

I'd be offended. It was a pretty crude reply on his part.

I would do the same as you and ask questions first rather than rip something apart and not be able to put it back together again.

If you're lazy then you should feel offended, if you're just ignorant than you have a valid claim to having posted your OP.

The 760 console is removed exactly the same way the one in the 740 is done, so I'm not sure what removal procedure you are citing when you state that it is much more complicated. Equating it with the PITA 200s fan blower is kind of foolish too... what would make one think they are equally complicated or that one is analogous to the other?

You need to delineate between "dash" and "console"... they are two TOTALLY different things.

Dash = thing that coveres the entire area under the front windshield
Console = black casing thing that holds odometer, speedometer, gauges, etc.

The console on all 700s (almost all) is removed exactly the same way. You pop the two small plastic covers at the bottom corners (outside the adjuster knobs), unscrew the screw in each (phillips, same size as included screwdriver), and then just slide the console out. I could do it in under 1 minute if I really tried.
