Front bumper shocks 200 1988

I noticed that my car's front bumper is pushed in about 1" more on
the right hand side than on the left. It looks like someone must
have bumped the car in a parking lot and compressed the right bumper
shock mount. From FCP Groton, the shock mounts are $220 per side -
anyone have some or know where to buy them cheaper?

I caught a photo on the brickboard gallery where someone drilled a hole in each shock assembly and pushed his (commando) bumper IN. Loss of energy absorbtion in a crash situation, but it sure looked good. Considering doing that or getting a shorter assembly of some sort affixed to my cars, seeing as how they both have that bumper sticking out a country mile. I don't know how this would affect the non-commando bumper. Ideas?

Let me know if you need to replace them with used ones. I have a donar car sitting and will let them go cheap.

Thanks, all for the advice - Haroon, I might take you up on your
offer to sell me a pair of shocks.

Hold on there, partner. before you go and buy a new one, try what I did. Remove the bumper and shocks from the car. If you can get the offending shock off the bumper, all the better. If so, put the bracket on the larger end in a bench vise. Take the largest set of channel lock pliers you have and wrap them around the smaller piston and slowly twist and pull. The twist should only be about 1/8th of a turn, max, in any direction. The piston should pop back into position, and you've saved yourself a chunk of change. If the shock doesn't come off the bumper, as they often don't, chock the bumper so it doesn't wiggle, and pull and twist in place....same results. DO NOT USE HEAT! I've done this trick on my Volvo, later Porsche 914, and other vehicles. Saved a ton of $.

I've been meaning to ask about this. The rear bumper on our '83 244 has the same problem (but both sides the same). Will your trick work on those? It would appear that these were made to be resetable, but what do I know?
