flywheels and idoits 700 1989

I need some help . I replaced the rear main seal and when I put it back together no start. I pulled the tranny off again and moved the flywheel to the right aligment(I HOPE) . Can I try the engine to see if it will fire without hooking the tranny back up.I would like to see if it will fire. THANKS

Im sort of in the same dilemma. I recently replaced my engine and did not index the flywheel. Its a 1 in 8 chance that the flywheel is on right but the car runs fine when warmed up. sO Im assuming it if. What luck if I did!! I just cant get it started after sitting for over 5 hours. I have not removed the starter to check the flywheel pos. (too freezin here)
but I dont see how the car could run correctly with the flywheel index off the mark.
