'87 740 GLE Wagon Stopped running 700 1987

was driving the car the other day, stalled 2x's , would restart thean drove fine. Went to start later that afternoon and it wouldn't crank over. Battery is fine, has 1/2 tank of gas, etc......

Changed fuel pump relay but that didn't do anything.

Anybody else experience this and what was your solution?

If it won't crank something is obviously amiss in the cranking circuitry. Is there a good battery cable connection to the starter?. If so, see if the solenoid gets current when turning the key. If not, could be in ign.switch. If solenoid gets current but no crank ,could be bad starter solenoid.
You can use a small wire direct from the batt+ to solenoid to see if it cranks. This will by-pass any bad ign.switch.
Make sure gear is in park and handbrake on if trying this .
A little logic will solve this easily.

Could be your Radio Supression relay, mounted near the water reservoir on the passenger side strut tower. This relay controls your injectors. Swap it with the AC auxliary cooling fan relay & see if it starts.

The most likely culprit is the Hall sensor in your distributor. As you crank the engine watch your tach needle to see if it jumps. If it doesn't your Hall sensor is likely dead. Also check for spark to confirm this. If it is bad try to find a whole distributor at a junk yard. I replaced my sensor but it is a pins & needles type job. For more info see the FEATURES pull-down menu above/ 700/900 FAQs.

Good LucK & Happy New Year
