turn signal stick 140-160

my turn signal stick on my '74 164 was completly mangled, kinda hanging loosly out of the steering column and sparking the contacts sometimes. so I took it out and used an old Jenn Air range fan/light switch to substitute for the turn signal switch, and used a door switch from a dryer or something for the headlight dipper switch. obviously, this setup is extreemly tacky and, though I have all the regular features except the auto-off feature for turning corners. but, I wish to replace it with something original. does the signal stalk for the '71 140 series fit the 164? basically, does the stalk from the original design carry over through the '73 interior/exterior redesign of the 140/160? I assume that the internal parts of the signal indicator would be the same, but would the auto-return work with the later-model steering wheel? does anyone have any knowledge on the subject before I go ripping the insides of my cars apart?

You could also use 240 turn and wiper switches with little modification to the covers on the column.

Mine started flopping around last week on my 74.

The bottom column cover drops with 2 screws. The stalk is held on with a few more screws. You should be able to reattach it with a normal screwdriver and no contortions. I fixed mine in a parking lot while my wife went to the post office.

If the stalk is broken for some reason you should call rpr or voluparts. They've helped me with small parts in the past.

I'm afraid only a switch from a '74 140/160 is the "right" switch. Also, it's the only one that will fit, except possibly a '75 164.
