Fellas:
I apologize for posting this probably redundant message/problem. I searched through the archives but, either I didn't look hard enough, or the answer to my question really wasn't there.
No start on the trusty 240 GL today. I checked for spark on all four cyls. All good. I'm getting fuel to the rail and also past the regulator while trying to start. I have no idea what the fuel pressure is since I don't have a gauge. I tried to listen to the fuel injectors (screw driver method) but I'm not sure if the clicking I'm hearing are in fact the injectors opening or something else. So, my question really is: can a fuel pump not delivering sufficient pressure cause a no start condition? If it is, maybe I'll invest on a fuel pressure gauge/test rig to find out if it is my pump.
Thanks in advance for replies from you Bricksters out there.
Denny

I know you believe the fuel is OK, but take a close look at the 25 amp blade fuse near the coil, and its wire terminals. Same for fuse 12, which powers the Fuel relay.

Also try starting with the pumps hotwired by a jumper from the Left (hot) side of any fuse 6 thru 10, to the Left (hot) side of fuse 5.

That will bypass the suspect 25 amp fuse and the Fuel relay.

Just remembered -- do you hear the (FI) System relay click on when you turn thr key to ON (before cranking)? If that doesn't happen, the hotwired pumps won't do anything for you (no power to AMM or ECU if System relay doesn't pick).

Hello Denny; Usually if a pump is weak it will try to start, it will at least pop, sputter or something. Sometimes it will fire and idle, but not rev any higher or bog out at speed from lack of fuel. Did you pull any sparkplugs after trying to start it,to see if they were wet? They may be getting too much fuel. Or dry, and no fuel. Is compression good?

Forgot to mention, the old wagon began to idle too high,
get poor mileage and flood after short shut-downs.
I accidently resolved this problem by swapping out the
fuel presssure regulator with $5 pik n pull spare.
I dread the thought of a shot of starting-ether into any
engine, but if it gets you out of an emergency spot it
might be worth a try.
Happy brickin'!

a short blast of starting fluid spray into each spark plug hole and reinstall plugs and wires to correct firing order sequence then try to start. If it starts and shuts down then you have a fuel delivery situation. If it does not start at all then a good chance you have no juice to the spark plugs and you got to look at electrical issues. Also hook up a timing light and see if you are sparking all the time and just for fun look at were your firing at on number 1 cylinder by observing the timing mark on the crank pulley. Another possibility would be that the distributor cap is shot and shorting out. My humble driveway expierence

Sorry to hear this vovonewb....the day I went to pick up
my 245 was wet and cool. It would not start. I pulled all
four plugs to find they'd been gapped at about 75 thousandths
and were all wet. Changed the gap , dried out the cylinders,
re-installed the plugs
and had a great car till the next rainy day.(later resolved by
cap & rotor) Might try that one,
or keep a spare set like I usually do.
Keep us posted.
