need help accessing front door hinges 240 200

I need to replace my front door hinges from the body side on my 240, but need guidance as to how to get to the bolts on this side. Bently, Haynes, nor Chilton do not show anything.

thanks in advance.

If replacing on the passenger side, remove the plastic kick panel in the right footwell. To do this, pull up hte plastic sill cover, tehn pull away the flexible plastic gasket, trim or whatever you want to call it that covers the pinch welded seam up along teh dorr opening. You will then probably see a small metal clip or two holding the front edge of the plastic kick panel to body door opening. Pry this off and the panel should come out easily. Now you will have to remove the engine computer unit there, and probably a felt paper cover. You can then see the three hinge bolts.

The driver's side is almost identical except that you will have to remove teh fuse box. It is held in place by two philip head screws, top and bottom of the plastic fuse box. Of course, whenever working aorund electrical circuits, be sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Good luck, it's not the hard, and pretty straightforward when look in there.

Mike

I would add that when reassembling, be sure to restick that felt paper securely, it serves an important role in directing any wayward water down to the rocker drains instead of into the carpets. Goop and Seal-all are both decent for patching it up if you tear it.

Strangely enough, neither do my Volvo "Green" book help much. All they say is "remove the hinges....."

I think you have to remove the panel that surrounds the fuse panel, and maybe the fuse panel itself. BE SURE that the battery negative cable is disconnected first.

Before loosening the hinges, mark the location of the hinge on both of the "A" pillar and on the door so you can get the adjustment close when installing.

You will want to remove the door sill, (hard upward pull alternating between front and rear) and the front part of the black U-Shaped molding that goes all around the door over the welded seam. There may be some metal clips inside it - they are sharp.

There are also some clips on that side panel, under the molding. those clips are sharp, too.

Before you get the door loose, have all the wires and things disconnected, there are connectors. Support the door, I understand its 30 to 40 pounds.

Good Luck,

Bob
