Stall when highway speed what to look for? 200 1989

Hello Bricksters

Driving home yesterday on a very hot day (90+deree) on the highway 50mph+ suddenly a loss of acceleration and begin to slow down, floor the pedal nothing happens. I coast to the emergency lane, and thinking to get off next exit, but was 1/4 mile short,car come to a complete stop , I was confused what to do, try crank it about 8-10 time (1 or 2 minutes in between) woudn't start, I sat there helpless for a few minutes, and thinking give it one more crank before I call AAA, amazingly it start right up, Why it started after 10-15 minutes?

Check the code this morning it's 1-1-1

I search the archive there were lots of similar problem but unfortunatly no one seems to post their findings, hope someone can help me here.

I suspected;
1. Crank Position sensor ?
2. Fuel Pump ?
Do I just replace both? please help
Thanks in advance
Tom

Agree with previous post as most probable cause, but also wondering if you noticed the temperature gauge reading. If the engine overheated and then cooled after sitting, it would produce your symptoms. If the air conditioning was running and your condenser cooling fan is not running, it could overheat the engine. If fan does not run with air on, check power at fan, relay and radiator temperature switch (if it has one).

Thanks for your reply;
Temperature is not the issue, gauge is in the middle at the time and I was traveling at highway speed, I wish I have a/c (never convert to R-134) ... but all the window were open at the time, relay was resoldered last year, 25amp fuse also cleaned periodically, may be it's time to depart from my Volvo ( 120k on her alrady ), just can't keep up with these maint, just worry if I get stuck some day.

I would:

1) Replace the resoldered fuel relay with a new one
2) Carefully inspect the wiring to the 25 amp fuse at the Battery + terminal
3) Replace the RPM sender if it is the original (yellow banded version)

"may be it's time to depart from my Volvo ( 120k on her alrady ), just can't keep up with these maint..."

IMO, 120k (miles) is barely Half-Life for a 240. When was the last time it failed you?

Last time I got stuck was 2 years ago, limb home and replaced AMM from FCP. If I coudn't get the (most of) problem solve by Aug. (due for Inspection) I'll consider selling her or donate to charity. With all the project between the house and the Volvo...just can have enough time, Timing Belt, Rear TAB,etc.. Don't get me wrong I love Volvo, I'm original owner of this car, but I just need a reliable transportation for my daily driving.

Thanks all

I like for you to "depart" your 120K Volvo down to Georgia where I live. I'd like to have a new one. Your car isn't broken in good yet, if it's been maintained.
