HELP! Front bumper stuck under headlights! HELP! URGENT! 900

My sister bumped her Volvo into a wall this morning. Now the driver's half of the front bumper is sunk inwards and is stuck under the headlights. In addition, the part of the side bumper that is on the driver's side went 3" towards the wheel and kinda overlapped it. So now the wheel can't turn to the left or it will break that side bumper which means that the car is pretty much stuck on the parking lot. I need to find a way to repair it ASAP. Please, help me.

How could I bring the bumper to its previous normal position? Tie a rope to it and try to pull it out slowly? Am I gonna break something? Should I use a rubber hummer and try to get it unstuck, hitting from the inside?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Depression of the bumper shocks usually means replacing it. That, however, won't help you in your sister's VOlvo's situation.

There is a device known as a "come along" used to make very taught a strand of barbed wire fence while putting up such a fence. It exerts a lot of pull. Available at rural type hardware, farm & ranch or lumber yard stores.

It would require hooking the device to something immovable in front of the car. Then and using a cable to make a loop over the depressed shock and attaching it to the come along. Put the emergency brakes on, and car in Park.

Start pulling, and you will get the shock pulled out. Probably should pull some, wait some, pull some, etc.

Good Luck,

Bob

PS Another thought. Use a tow rope and another car. Can you move the sister's Volvo back far enough to get another car in front of it?

Can you get the scissor jack up under there horizontally to push the bumper out?

Or, just remove the displaced fender trim.

Bob, thanks for the tips. Could you tell me how to remove the fender trim? IS it hard to do? I'd really appreciate it since this seems to be the best and easiest solution at this time. Thanks.

Fender trim on a 940? There I am stuck. None of my Volvos are 940 or even 740.

In Houston, the west end Volvo dealer body shop is separate from the dealership/shop/lot facility. They run pretty independently, therefore it is easy to call or drop by and ask them various questions like this one.

If you are friendly with the parts counter people, they can get a picture on the computer screen and print it off for you. I did that to learn how to install a front license plate frame on my born-in-Tennessee 965.

If you get into it yourself, as I would, keep in mind that the design is for quick and easy assembly - clips that can be "popped" into place, etc.

Good Luck,

Bob
