Same Old Problem Any Idea's? 200

Thought I would throw this out there again. 85 240 ti B21ft starts when cold with the turn ofthe key but when warm and sits for about an hr. turn the key and it takes about 8sec. to start but runs rough. Can't tell if it's flooding or not getting enough fuel.It takes a while for the engine to idle smooth. It seems that there is a period of time between going to a destination, shut ofthe engine do what I need to do and start the engine and no problem. It's that hour up to the when engine cools down that it's hard to start. I have in the last year replaced intank pump, fuel pump, fuel acc.plugs, wires, engine harness, cleaned throttle body, IAC and new vac lines.Anyone have this problem and solved it?????????

Same Old Problem Any Idea's? 200

hi there, have 85 turbo exact same situation. my fuel pressures are correct, hot, cold, line pressure. swapped warm up reg with known good one, check valve on fuel pump. done everything i and others can think of to no avail. all new vac hoses, upgraded intank pump. accumulator. tested every component from bentleys?
i did find a hole in the turbo pipe from intercooler to throttle body and replaced. this helped somewhat. car fires pefect the cooler it is outside.
havent tried anything in four months.
now i have a situation where the rpms surge at idle or at cruising?
i am just living with the longer cranking. my car seems to be affacted by the ambient temp and the engine temp. the engine runs perfect otherwise.
havent tried a new coil yet. sorry i couldnt help.
good luck.

85 Ti hard start hot 200 1985

Haven't solved it on mine particularly, but others have solved this puzzler with attention to the fuel pump relay. See the current thread by Kris Carlson and at least check out this relay for excessive heating. Bob Haire has seen this too.

Can't believe everyone missed this one, Art. Bad accumulator, I bet. Thanks to J. Meza for that one, it fixed my hot re-start for sure. The bad harness plug causes an acceleration stumble, WOT. Resolder the terminl ends.

You are right. I thought I'd seen "accumulator" in the list of stuff replaced, but what I remember was Mike's list.

hi robert, what do you think of bentleys quick check for the accumulator? i tried it and my accumulator checks out. also swapped in a junkyard unit which didnt help. i guess i can buy a new one if needed? i also fixed up my fuel pump relay and connections to fuel pump relay, along with every other thing i can think of. thanks

Mike, not sure, have only done swap tests. Easy when you have triple spare everythings. I definitely have a bad one (took out) and a good one (in the car). I wonder if Bentley test would confirm? I was tipped off by Julio (BB) and fixed the hot start just like that.

Ditto on the fuel pump relay.
These symptoms spell a sticky FPR, which causes a vapor lock condition in the fuel lines.
When it happens (tough or no-start on hot day) take out the FPR and knock it on the ground. Put back and I bet you it'll start right away. When you remove it, it may be quite hot to touch, a sign it's on it's way out.

hi vvpete, just to comfirm are you referring to the control pressure regulator also called warm up regulator?
i put a k-jet guage setup on my turbo and the hot, cold, line pressures all fell within specs?
i kinda learned to live with this problem as i have tried everything i can think of.
im using a control pressure regulator from a board member (with a good reputation) that was removed from his car (same part #) before other problems made the car usless, and he didnt have this problem?
but i can do as you say.
its not good when i talk great about my car to people and then it wont start right.
i can not think of any part of my F.I. system i havent tested or replaced.
im thinking of installing a control pressure regulator from the earlier 240 turbo (0438140123)in my car, (grasping for straws). maybe this altitude compensation setup is not for me as i live in flat flat low low florida?
thanks for any info
