140 electric funk 140-160

1972 142E b20f fuel injected

I have a missfiring problem on my #3 cylinder. And a stalling problem.
So I am tracking this down and I notice that my car will idle until I hit the brakes. I thought "ok, vacuum issue" I adjusted valves, checked compression, checked spark. And all I can figure is that there is an electric short somewhere.
When I hit the brakes driving or idling the engine dies.
When the headlights are on the car dies or surges while accelerating.
The right side turn signals quit working.
When I hit the brakes the right front turn lamp comes on.

Also, something I have been ignoring (probably a strong idicating symptom) When the key is turned to "on" but the engine is off the oil/brake/alt indicator light surge dim to bright. I have been totally baffled by this as I can't think of anything that is drawing on the power like this.

So, I didn't change anything electrical to cause this. I am going now to look in the steering column area for shorts or broken wires and such.
Anyone experience this?
or
What is the best route to track this down? I guess I'll just follow brake wires until I find the culprit?

thanks
george
