Well, I thought I finally had this one sorted ... but, Guess what ... it's STILL doing it ..... so here's what has been done so far .... Rebuilt B20E +.030 with Street Torque Cam.... 10.5:1 compression dual down pipe into 2" exhaust with a 14" MAGNA FLOW muffler and a 10" bubble type resonator. CRANE XR700 optical trigger ignition. The carbs 2 x HS6 fitted with DX needles and jets just rebuilt by Tom Bryant from West Bath, Maine and installed and tuned by Bob Silvius and I at his place in Freeport. Maine... (GREAT weekend :-) ) Finally with the rebuilt carbs the car will actually sit and idle indefinately ... what a concept ... no more having to constantly blip the throttle to keep it running at the lights. BUT it still will idle at 1500 to 1800 or higher when you come off the highway and have to sit .... IF you have lots of time within 5 minutes the engine settles down to it's 800 rpm idle ... or if you shut it off and then restart it, it will immediately settle down to the 800 rpm idle. Figuring we had the carburetion issues sorted out, when I got home from Maine, I had Brant Vander Kooi, my Volvo Guru here in Nova Scotia, pull and disassemble the distributor and make sure that the advance weights were not hanging in the advanced position figuring this was the only remaining problem that might be causing the problem .... but guess what ...it's STILL doing it .... (SIGH) .... OK I've come up with one more possibility .... I use the cast Iron combined manifold which obviously transfer a fair amount of heat to the carbs ... now the question .... has anyone tried using insulating spacers under the carbs to cut down on heat transfer? Has it helped ? If so .... where can I get a pair ?
