The Keyhole State... 120-130 1967

Hello All:

1967 Volvo 122S Wagon. As you may have heard, I recently reassembled my freshened head, only to get a knocking sound. After much debate, distress, and diagnostics, we isolated the sound to the timing gear cover. The ever-awesome and helpful Shayne from IPD pointed me in the right direction by phone.

Quick aside folks - Shayne ASTONISHED me in his complete recall of every post relating to work I have performed on Virginia this past year. What a great resource and if you are ever on the fence about suppliers, may I humbly suggest you lean the IPD way. End of digression.

It sounds like something is hitting inside the timing gear cover and Shayne almost certainly has guessed correctly. The Woodruff Wilson key in the camshaft probably got slightly tweaked out of its home when I installed the new fiber timing gear 400 miles ago. Guess what I get to do for the rest of the day?

When I changed the timing gear I did not take off the thrust plate of the spacer behind it so any suggestions or hints about what I need to look for would be much appreciated. I will report back my findings later.

Thanks as always, everyone, for your help.

Cheers,

Jeff Pucillo
